Applications Open for UNESCO–Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences

The 10th edition (2026) call for the UNESCO–Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences has been announced.

The Prize is awarded to eminent scientists, groups of scientists, institutions, and non-governmental organizations that have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life of individuals and communities through outstanding and transformative scientific discoveries in fields such as medicine, biology, agriculture, environmental sciences, and new technologies. These contributions may include medical innovations that extend and enhance patient lives, agricultural practices that increase productivity and sustainability, and environmental research that supports ecosystem conservation and contributes to combating climate change. In addition, new technologies continue to transform daily life by providing innovative and sustainable solutions to global challenges.

  • Application Deadline: 31 March 2026 (23:59, UTC+1)

Eligibility Conditios

Individuals, research groups, research institutions, and non-governmental organizations that have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life of individuals and communities through outstanding and transformative scientific work in the life sciences, including:

  • Individuals
  • Research groups
  • Research institutions
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

📌 Important Note: Self-nominations will not be accepted.

📂 Nomination and Application Process

Candidates may apply only through the following entities:

  • UNESCO National Commissions (through Member States)
  • Non-governmental organizations in official partnership with UNESCO

Each authorized body may nominate up to five (5) candidates per call period.
The UNESCO Secretariat considers only applications that have been officially endorsed.

💶 Prize

  • A total amount of USD 300,000 to be equally shared among up to three laureates.
  • The Prize also includes:
    • UNESCO certificate
    • the “Integración Tribal” statuette, designed by Leandro Mbomio
