Applications Open for the UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize for Young Scientists in STEM!

The nomination process for the 2027 UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), organized in partnership with UNESCO and the Abdullah Al Fozan Foundation, is now open!

This prestigious prize is designed to promote young scientists who contribute to global socio-economic transformation and development by recognizing their achievements in STEM research, education, and international cooperation. Furthermore, the prize aims to promote gender equality and scientific literacy by encouraging the participation of girls and women in science.

📅 Call Timeline

  • UNESCO Turkish National Commission Deadline: 23 October 2026*
  • International Award Portal Deadline: 30 November 2026

*Submissions to be evaluated through the Turkish National Commission must strictly adhere to the 23 October deadline.

Eligibility

Scientists and early-career researchers under 40 years of age who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in the following areas are eligible to be nominated:

  • Research in STEM disciplines, including emerging technologies
  • STEM education, dissemination of research findings, and innovation activities
  • International or regional cooperation activities in STEM fields

The prize is awarded to five laureates, one from each of UNESCO’s five geographical regions. Nominations of young women scientists are strongly encouraged.

📝 Application Process

Candidates may only be nominated through authorized entities: UNESCO National Commissions, NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO, UNESCO Chairs, international scientific unions, and universities.

  • Online Application: Submissions must be made directly through the official application portal at unescoalfozanprize.org
  • Application Language: Proposals must be submitted in either English or French.
  • Nomination Restriction: Self-nominations and individual nominations by faculty members or staff are not accepted.

💶 Award Scope
The prize provides USD 50,000 for each of the five laureates selected from the five geographical regions.
