EMBO Installation Grants 2026 Call
The EMBO Installation Grants scheme supports early-career researchers in the life sciences who wish to move (or have recently moved) to participating host countries (including Türkiye) to establish their independent research groups after conducting research abroad. The program provides grant support alongside extensive benefits including networking opportunities (annual meetings, sectoral meetings, lab visits), mentorship by an EMBO Member, support to attend EMBO Lab Leadership Courses, and access to EMBL Core Facilities.
📅 Call Timeline
- Call Opening Date: 1 February 2026
- Application deadline: 15 April
- Online Interviews: 11 or 12 November 2026
✅ Eligibility
- Must be negotiating a full-time group leader position at an institute in a participating country (Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, or Türkiye) OR have established a research group in one of these countries no earlier than 15 April 2024.
- Received a PhD within the last 9 years (no earlier than 2017).
- No age limit. Extensions apply for parental leave, etc.
- Within the last 4 years (2022-2026), spent at least 2 consecutive years outside the country where the research group is to be established.
- Perform research in the life sciences (EMBO subject areas).
📂 Support Scope and Duration
- Program support duration is up to 5 years (subject to review in the third year).
- Grants for organizing conferences, travel funds for lab members' research visits, and travel grants for meeting attendance.
💶 Funding Opportunities
- An annual grant of €50,000 is provided.
- From 2025 onwards, €35,000 is provided by the national funding agency (TÜBİTAK for Türkiye), and €15,000 by EMBC for the first three years.
- The final two years are fully covered by the national funding agency.
- Grantees may apply for additional small grants of up to €10,000 per year from EMBO.
